Spirit of Life Tree

The "Spirit of Life Tree" by artist Valeria Cray-Dihaan now sits proudly at the corner of Hight Street and Ellicott Street. The metal sculpture was commissioned by The Renaissance Foundation - a group that plans on funding a series of sculptures throughout the city.

The Medical Campus is quickly becoming a progressive district with many artistic and green initiatives unfolding from week to week. The sculpture is meant to signify the process of growth, or healing, and is intended to be inspirational for the patients who pass by.

Many Small Ships

Artist Carley Jean Parrish painted the image on canvas as part of a mixed medium art installation. Along with the canvas (printed on woven nylon mesh fabric), there is also aspects of relief metal and sculptural elements, giving the surface a multi-dimensional appearance.

30'x60' mural of the original Michigan Avenue lift bridge - yes, the same one that was destroyed by an errant freighter as it veered off course. The bridge was never replaced unfortunately and that's partially why it's so hard to get the Outer Harbor (see more).

The mural, entitled Many Small Ships, graces the backside of John McKendry's Hi-Temp Fabrication building - the same building that recently acted as host to this Sarah Myers exhibit. Look for the work of art at the back parking lot of 79 Perry Street, situated on Illinois Street across from the First Niagara Center.

Buffalo State College has opened a community center on Grant Street to assist with programming for youth and families living on the West Side. Many of the refugees and immigrants don't have access to proper information outlets designed to help them adjust to living in a foreign country.

This community center is geared towards answering the troubling issues for all West Siders. The center is aligning itself with like-minded community organizations, and is positioning itself to become a hub for programming, meeting space, etc.
