South Michigan Avenue Lift Bridge

South Michigan Avenue Lift Bridge

The Michigan Avenue Bridge traverses the Buffalo River. It is one of the only ways to get from the Inner Harbor to the Outer Harbor. The bridge is a vertical lift bridge that allows for large ships and freighters to pass underneath.

If you're trying to get from the Inner Harbor to the Outer Harbor, other than The Skyway, this, along with the Ohio Street Bridge is the only way to get there. After passing over the bridge you must take a left at Ganson Street (the second Michigan bridge was destroyed by an errant freighter years ago and was never replaced). Head to Ohio Street (you will see the Ohio Street Bridge to your left). Take a right and pass over an industrial overpass and you will find yourself at the Outer Harbor.
