The Coit House
The Coit House is the oldest house in Buffalo. Originally located on the waterfront, the house was eventually moved into residential neighborhood near Allentown. Over the years The Coit has been fixed up, painted and repaired, though there has been controversy surrounding some of changes to the original design elements.
As a whole. this house is very significant for many reasons. To me, the fact that it represents a house that would have been found near the Inner harbor is very significant. As we recreate the area around the Commercial Slip, we can look to The Coit as a fine example of a house that would have stood before the turn of the century.
