SIBYLS Women's Theatrical Ensemble

SIBYLS Women's Theatrical Ensemble

From Sandra Jardine/Co founder of SYBILS - a women's theatrical ensemble:

We are called SYBILS named after an ancient women's order that broke from a male, abusive civilization and lived rather independently until
the waves of time changed where they could leave their cloistered life and the4 waves of time changed and they could live more safely.

SIBYLS represents the search for independence, interdependence, emancipation and celebration in all women, whether they come from a heterosexual, bi-sexual or lesbian orientation. Our purpose is to provide a challenging forum, called the 3 E's: education, enlightenment and an entertainment experience for women of all ages, with an emphasis on young girls.

The formative years are crucial, for they create a foundation that paves the destiny of young, female souls. Unfortunately, many girls at this point in time do not have the emotional tools to build a healthy future because of the lack of nurturing in their home life. We have children whose parents are alcoholics, drug addicts, family violence, promiscuity, prostitution, gambling addicts and the list is innumerable.

The intrusion of compromised media using all kinds of allurements to tempt, fantasize and eventually have young men and women live out their fantasies in a distorted mindset is another battle society is facing (especially the internet) at this time in history.

Young girls are pregnant now at 10, 11. 12 and 13 years old. Many are not living with their parents, but rather a grandparent, foster home, residential house, half way house or some other compromised situation. Unfortunately, unhealthy seeds were planted in the consciousness of these young girls long before they began to receive some type of help or alternative assistance.

Our intention is to plant new, healthier seeds through theatrical themes that will resonate to the issues that our future women are wrestling with in their personal lives. Issues that are brought to light through powerful theatrical tools, followed by interactive group discussion regarding the tone and strength of the play or vignette can be as powerful as Gestalt Therapy or the Primal Scream.

Marisa and I both know as directors and actresses the powerful result that theatre can produce and make an impact on one's life.

We believe our women's ensemble will make a difference in schools and the community at large. The old adage "it takes a community to bring up a child" is ever so true in these tumultuous times that we are living in. They also used that statement in the movie AVATAR. It takes a cooperative conscience to inspire community members to get involved and give generously to sociological conditions that are way too out of control.

We are still young, little yearlings and besides talent and marketing, we are dependent upon people like yourself to help promote our work in Buffalo's community at large. Our emphasis is the 3 E's: ENTERTAIN, EDUCATE and ENLIGHTEN!
