South Campus Neon Sculptures
Located at the South Campus Metro Rail Station (east), this neon sculpture by Stephen Antonakos was part of an art installation coinciding with the opening of the Metro Rail in 1985. The entire effort cost $1.15 million - a staggering amount of money for the time.
The glowing colors of the neon bounce off the metal escalators and the walls of the surrounding tunnel, giving a futuristic appearance to the station. The neon is meant to pay homage to the flow of the trains and the people that pass through.
