Sam Gilliam Sculpture
Located at the Canisius College campus Metro Rail station, this sculpture by Sam Gilliam was part of an art installation coinciding with the opening of the Metro Rail in 1985. The entire effort cost $1.15 million - a staggering amount of money for the time.
Situated on the facade of the station, the work of art is very noticeable from Main Street passersby. Apparently the artist was interested in creating a piece that would mimic the sun as it rose in the east over the station.
