Robert Lobe Sculptures
Located at the Amherst Street Metro Rail Station, two sculptures by Robert Lobe (one indoors and one outside) are part of an art installation coinciding with the opening of the Metro Rail in 1985. The entire effort cost $1.15 million - a staggering amount of money for the time.
Although impressive in size, these sculptures (especially the one outside) are tough to swallow. For some reason, the original intent of the work of art is lost (on me at least). Apparently it's a mold of a real rock and tree that was cut in half. The second piece, inside the station, is suspended towards the ceiling in close visual proximity to its outdoor counterpart (viewable through a large window).
The process is impressive - the positioning of the sculptures might be part of the problem.
