Richardson Cross Greenhouse

Richardson Cross Greenhouse

When I first looked at an aerial view of the Richardson Olmsted Complex, I thought I was seeing things. Behind the towers I noticed a gigantic cross. I later learned that the cross was what remained of the former greenhouse where food was grown to feed the 'patients'.

Much of the land surrounding the complex was used as farming. As a matter of fact, the farm stretched all the way to the Scajaquada Creek. All that remains of the Richardson Cross Greenhouse are the Medina sandstone walls, not easily seen by the casual observer, but unmistakable when looking from above.
