Bronze of Saint Marguerite

Bronze of Saint Marguerite

Located on the D'Youville College Campus, this statue was only created and installed a couple of years back by artist David Derner. To the testament of the piece, one would think that the piece had been in place for many years.

The statue symbolizes Saint Marguerite's work with the orphans, the poor and the unwed mothers of Montreal. The statue took three years to complete.

There are two additional items of interest besides the main characters. There is a dropped key on the floor (base), and a small kitten playing in the folds of her dress. The artist cleverly sculpted his own kitten to give the statue an air of lightness. He explained that the key is an exact replica of the one that she owned, but she dropped it when she was startled by the animal playing afoot.
