Francisco Pizzaro
Although I wouldn't exactly call the sculpture of Francisco Pizzaro a modern work of art, as the vast majority of works at the Albright-Knox tend to be, this bronze sculpture is befitting of the magnificent building, in ways that other works of art could not possibly achieve.
There is a certain raw energy that artist Charles Cary Rumsey captured when he sculpted the original work of art in 1910 (this cast dates 1920). The sheer size of the horse and rider is impressive, as it was intended to be a life-size tribute when the original was first presented at the Panama Pacific Exposition (San Francisco - 1915).
