Humboldt Parkway
Concept:
At one time, this was one of the most dramatic grass and tree-lined parkways in Buffalo - it was one of the crucial connectors that linked the Olmsted park system.
Since the 50s the Kensington Expressway has been known as The Scar. That's due to the flight of people to the burbs, thus creating a thoroughfare in and out of the city. In turn, the expressway wreaked havoc on the surrounding neighborhoods.
Today there is a push to either fill in the expressway or cap it, thus creating a traffic calming boulevard. If one of these studies is finally adopted it would reverse one of the biggest mistakes ever wrought upon the city.
The stretch in question runs between Best Street and Delaware Avenue.
