Buffalo Rugby

The Buffalo Rugby Club competes nationally with two sides, one competing in the Midwest and one competing in New York State. The Midwest side has advanced to the national Sweet 16 tournament in eight of the past nine years including advancing to the Elite 8 in five of those years. The New York State side advanced to the New York State playoffs this past season as well.

In addition to fielding two competitive rugby sides, the Buffalo Rugby Club is involved in organizing numerous youth clinics throughout the area. Club members are also active in assisting or coaching many local youth, high schools and colleges rugby programs. The Club also is involved with the Olmsted Conservancy and regularly volunteers for tree planting and other activities at Delaware Park.

The Buffalo Rugby Club has an annual operating budget of about $50,000. Because of the success of the Club, there are significant travel requirements to participate in tournaments and games necessitating the size of this budget.

The Buffalo Rugby Club brings significant resources to the table. The Club is over 40 years old, is well established and well recognized throughout the community. The Club has an extensive network of over 350 alumni both in the area and outside of the area with contacts in many businesses and other areas. In addition, the Buffalo Rugby Club recently obtained its 501(c)3 tax exempt status which will allow the Club to significantly increase its fundraising capabilities in connection with raising money to use for a permanent field.
