The Hope Refugee Sewing Project

The Hope Refugee Sewing Project

The Hope Refugee Sewing Project empowers refugees through teaching the skill of sewing.

* Two different sewing classes are offered: a monthly beginners class and an advanced class.

* The classes provide an opportunity for refugees to develop cross-cultural friendships in a supportive environment.

* Sewing students develop a greater sense of self-sufficiency by making their own clothing and household items.

* The advanced class connects the sewing students with local microenterprise advisors and community groups interested in purchasing their sewn products.

* Each student receives a sewing machine, fabric and sewing notions. All supplies have been donated to the Sewing Project.

Hope Refugee Services of Buffalo, NY., is a faith-based organization dedicated to helping refugees become contributing members of their communities by empowering them to overcome persistent economic, educational, cultural and health barriers.
