MAP Green Garden Pergola
What Massachusetts Avenue Project (MAP) does not grow in the ground, they grow in their nearby greenhouse or elevated on this pergola. In order to provide beans, peas and grapes (among other fruits and veggies) to the neighborhood, much of the harvest must be elevated.
This pergola and the surrounding gardens found on this parcel of land, are interconnected with a number of other city lots (nine total), that help to provide affordable healthy produce for the neighborhood (and some schools).
The food is also used to stock MAP's Mobile Market - the big purple bus can be seen traveling throughout the city providing locally harvested goods to people who might otherwise not have access to these types of foods.
