Willie's Little Corner Restaurant
Willie's Little Corner Restaurant has recently opened. An immediate neighborhood favorite that serves different specials for each day of the week (closed Sundays). Just about everything is fresh and made to order, while keeping a rather extensive menu from which to pick from.
It might help if you brush up on your Spanish cuisine before coming to the eatery as there are very ethnic Spanish and Puerto Rican delights. My last meal there I tried the fried green bananas served with onions (guineos en escabeche), yellow rice and some chopped iceberg lettuce. After mixing around and adding hotsauce I had created a very tasty open-face vegetarian taco.
There are always plenty of seats at Willie's Little Corner Restaurant - once you can figure out how to get there, you'll have a new place on the West Side to hit up for consistently good food.
Navigetter picks: The Cuban sandwich with salami, turkey, pastrami, pork and American white cheese. Alcapurrias (de guineos) root fritter stuffed with beef. There is no parcha, so try the tamarindo juice drink - it's just as good!
Navigetter tip: Willie's serves American-style breakfast all day long and also serves some everyday lunch items like tuna fish, BLT, and grilled cheese with ham.
