Gala Waters (Hoyt Lake)

Gala Waters (Hoyt Lake)

Many years ago Delaware Park's Gala Waters was a hotbed of boating activity. As time when by, so did the era of the boats. For years, activity on the lake was dormant. It was only recently that the rowboats and canoes have reappeared. Thanks to the Olmsted Parks Conservancy and the Buffalo State College Maritime Center, people can once again row the serene waters.

What's more, the boating destinations on the lake have been broadened. Now rowers can travel under the bridge and visit the Japanese Gardens. Bring some food and drinks along. Look for the gigantic koi fish that swim around the small islands. The gardens are a work of art that constantly change with the seasons.

For anyone who already has personal watercraft such as a kayak or canoe, you are welcome to launch it onto Hoyt Lake. It will save you a couple bucks if you have your own craft. Soft drinks and snacks can be purchased at the ticket booth. And there are plenty of other things to do around Hoyt Lake without ever stepping foot into a boat!
