Whipple Truss Bridge
One of my favorite additions to the Inner Harbor's Commercial Slip is the Whipple Truss Bridge spanning the Erie Canal Terminus. Truly impressive as it was designed to replicate the original bridge that stood watch over this point of entry so long ago.
I witnessed this bridge being delivered down the Buffalo River in the middle of winter. The Edward Cotter fireboat broke an ice channel in order to deliver the cargo to its ultimate destination. Now the bridge stands as a testament to the rebirth of the Inner Harbor - to walk across it is like taking a step back in history to an era when people took the time to properly design and construct the city's built environment.
