The Edward M. Cotter Fireboat
Here we have the world's oldest active fireboat! She has become a real legend on the waters of Western New York and calls her home the old First Ward, a short distance from the legendary Swannie House.
The Cotter can be seen cruising the Buffalo River and the Black Rock Channel. She is a welcome visitor in many local waterfront activities and celebrations, and has even been known to chop the ice during wintertime when the ice boom is in peril or a path needs to be opened.
When I was a young boy, my dad took me to see The Cotter and since that time I've actually had a chance to take a ride or two. It's an opportunity to take if the occasion ever arises. The Cotter is located right along the Inner Harbor bike path.
