Buffalo Arts Studio

BAS resides in a rehabilitated factory. In 2000, we expanded from 15,000 sq. ft. to 23,000 sq. ft. We currently have two galleries, shared and private office spaces, a community space with kitchen, a printmaking room, a darkroom, a ceramics classroom, a kiln area, a computer lab, and semiprivate and private studios for 40 artists.

Buffalo Arts Studio (BAS) is a not-for-profit arts organization whose mission is to provide affordable studio space and regular public exposure for regional, national, and international artists through exhibitions, and to enrich the community with art classes, mural programs, and public art.

BAS was incorporated in 1991 and began renting space to artists in a 15,000 sq. ft. space in the Tri-Main Center. Our first gallery opened in 1992 and, in 1993, BAS developed a small board of directors. That same year, a city-wide mural program called Project CREATE (Community Revitalization through Environmental Art and Team Efforts) completed its first mural in Delaware Park.

1998 saw the beginning of the Project CREATE Education Program which has since grown to serve more than 300 students, adults, and children, in on-site art courses taught by professional artists. The JumpStart Scholarship Program provides tuition-free arts training to more than fifty students each year.

Exhibitions, public art projects, and classes help the studio serve as a cultural center.
