Playback Theatre of Buffalo
Playback Theatre of Buffalo: Interactive improvisational theatre performances in which the actors play back personal stories volunteered by members of the audience.
Designed to involve audiences in the creation of theatre at its most basic level, to deepen understanding of personal and shared stories, to facilitate communication and promote healing within diverse communities, and to educate audiences to the profound unifying power of theatre.
Our actors have trained with the founders of the School of Playback Theatre, Jonathan Fox and Jo Salas. Since 1996, we have performed for diverse audiences throughout WNY, northwest Pennsylvania, and southern Ontario, including:
The Alzheimers Association of WNY, Hospice/Life Transitions, Vive la Casa, Benedict House, the WNY Analytical Society, various schools (Daemen, DYouville, UB, Lancaster High School), conferences (The Creative Problem Solving Institute, Women in Theatre and Media, at DYouville College, the Association for Death Education and Counseling), churches and religious organizations (Buffalo State Colleges Newman Center, Unity Church, the Unitarian-Universalist Church of Buffalo, Havrah Community), senior residences, community activist organizations (VOICE-Buffalo), and, most recently, art galleries, including the Albright-Knox, the Burchfield Penney Art Center, and the UB Anderson Gallery.
Playback Theatre of Buffalo is a member of the International Playback Theatre network.
