Malamute Tavern
I always wondered what the deal was with The Malamute. Then one day, after a Sabres game, a bunch of us walked in and sat at the bar to avoid the post-game traffic. What we found was a very lively blue-collar atmosphere with friendly people and an industrial pub vibe.
We ordered some Buds because that's what everyone else was drinking and hunkered down to the bar. Because of the Sabres, there were a lot more people than just regulars - everyone was in high spirits and it turned out that The Malamute was not as formidable as it looked from the outside.
Since that time I've been to The Malamute a couple more times and find that it's a good place to get away from the day-to-day maddening crowds of Elmwood and Allentown.
Navigetter Tip: Don't ring the big bell hanging above the bar - nobody will tell you, until you ring it, that the signal means that you want to buy a round for the bar! And by that time it's too late...
One thing I never knew about the Malamute was that they serve pub food there... depending on the day you can find: Meatloaf w/ Mashed Potatoes and Gravy, Cheese Ravioli w/Sauce, Spaghetti w/ Rosina Meatballs, Baked Macaroni and Cheese. Hot and cold sandwiches, submarines and homemade soups!
