Folkloric Productions Dance Company

Folkloric Productions Dance Company is a not-for-profit cultural organization that has been providing artistic services to the WNY area for over ten years, including ongoing classes for children & adults, community outreach programs, and school programs.

Areas of special studies are dance and music of North Africa, the Middle East, and Southern Brazil. We have daily ongoing classes for children and adults, at all experience levels, in Belly Dance, Samba, Modern, Yoga, Stretch & Tone, Ballroom, and Tai Chi. We also have Kids After School Programs.

We also produce concerts featuring guest artist from all over the country, volunteering and collaborating with cultural organizations such as El Museo, Theater of Youth, Olmsted Parks Conservancy, New Phoenix Theater, World Connect, Allentown Association and others.

Cathy Skora, Founder and Artistic Director, has been studying teaching & performing dance for over fifteen years, and is founder and executive director of Folkloric Productions Dance Co., Inc. Her dance studies have included Modern (Graham-Based) and African (Dunham-Based), with the Gemini Dance Company, under the direction of Steve Porter.

As a member of Gemini, Cathy traveled to Europe for several summers as part of an international folk festival. Her area of special study are dances of the Middle East and North Africa. Cathy has traveled throughout Egypt, Morocco, Turkey, and Greece, exploring dance and culture. Her studies frequently take her to New York City to study with various masters, including Yousary Sharif, Velerie Camille, Ned Williams, Jajouka, Elena Lentini, and various Brazilian instructors.

Cathy's studies have also included a number of meditative forms such as Sufism, Yoga, and Buddhist techniques. She has performed at numerous of local venues as well as international venues throughout the country. Recent teaching engagements have taken her to Greece and Hawaii.

Cathy's passion for cultural dance led her to found Folkloric Productions Dance Co., Inc in the early 1990;s and the Allen Street Dance Studio which was located in the heart of Allentown for about 10 years. Cathy creates and facilitates movement workshops aimed at assisting others to find the natural grace that we all possess.

Her work includes developing and instructing cultural dance classes for children. Cathy is currently working on in depth arts integration program for elementary school grades k-6. Cathy is currently a student in the Creative Studies Graduate Department at Buffalo State College.

The dance company moved their operations in with the New Pheonix Theater in 2006.

Although Folkloric Productions Dance Co. is physically located at El Museo, 91 Allen Street (Navigetter pin), many of the work groups and classes take place at New Phoenix Theatre. Performances take place throughout the city.
