Café Allegro
As far as the Hertel Strip goes, Cafe Allegro is the real deal when it comes to coffee houses. Sure there are other great coffee shops on the street, but there's a difference when you actually stop to think about what makes a coffee house a coffee house.
Cafe Allegro exudes a coffee vibe if that's possible. First off, it looks like the type of place that you would find in the French Quarter. You know the type of place - sounds of live music floating out the door and the smell of grinds hanging on every note.
This is an excellent place to to meet people - free WiFi, plenty of seating, munchables and of course coffee drinks. Baked goods, soups, salads, wraps... plenty of culinary offerings to choose from when fueling up on caffeinated drinks.
From Cafe Allegro regarding Tuesday Open Mic and Songwriters Night: "Cafe Allegro's Tuesday Open Mic is open to performers of all ages and experience levels. Start time is 8:00 PM. In addition, one night a month is designated as Open Mic Alumni Night, with performers selected from those who have participated in Open Mic night in the past."
