Windsurfing @ Gallagher Beach
The Outer Harbor has some of the best windsurfing around. For starters, there's plenty of parking space to unload your gear. There's even a big lawn where you can dry out your sails before packing up. And it's a stone's throw from the parking lot to the beach.
The beach is made of small pebbles, not sand, but as you get out in the water there is sand. As for the conditions, the outer breakwall prevents waves from rolling in, so even when the wind is howling the water only gets choppy. That means that this section of the lake is meant for high speed sailing - you would need to go out past the breakwall to catch some air.
A lot of people take their dogs to the beach to swim.
