Urban Habitat Program

Urban Habitat Program

There is an effort on the East Side to to turn 3 acres of unused land (fronting the Central Terminal) into an outdoor green classroom. Replanting native plants, water conservation, soil remediation, habitat restoration, sustainability, recycling - a real learning lab.

What do you do with the fallen trees from The October Storm? If you ask landscaper Dave Majewski he will tell you that The Central Terminal is the perfect place to conduct large-scale composting.

The compost piles that you see here offer the grassroots organizations in the neighborhood the ability to cultivate the regeneration gardens with little or no expenditure.

Majewski has been working with Curtis Urban Farm Foundation and Central Terminal Restoration Corporation to establish the project.
