The Buffalo Amateur Golfers Society

The Buffalo Amateur Golfers Society (BAGS) is a non-profit organization established in 1993 dedicated to the development of organized golf for the beginning golfer.

BAGS communicates, educates and formulates opportunities to develop knowledge of the game while establishing network opportunities to promote Junior golf and other programs in the African American Community. BAGS is committed to the continued growth of the sport, prosperity of its members and the quality within Western New York.

BAGS members enjoy weekly Saturday golf outings having pre-arranged tee times to different courses in western New York and Ontario, Canada with opportunities to win prizes at each outing. After each outing, points are tabulated for each player using the Stable Ford System. At the end of the season, the player with the most points receives a plaque. Members scores are also used to develop their USGA Handicap and they receive a card showing their handicap. Weekly prizes are awarded for longest drive, closest to the pin, etc.

BAGS golf season runs from May 1st through September 15th. Prior to the start of the season, BAGS organizes a golf excursion to Myrtle Beach or Florida where members spend four days preparing for the season. In late August, the BAGS Club Championship is held over two days.

Membership is open to any person who will abide by the rules, objectives, code of conduct and expresses an interest in working with the group. Members must observe proper Golf Etiquette and Pace of Play. Slow play is discouraged. Proper golf attire and footwear are required at all times on the course.
