Local Restaurant Week

Mike Andrezjewski does not like to sit around. In the tumultuous winter of 2009, Andrezjewski decided the time had come for Western New York to embrace the concept of Local Restaurant Week.

He contacted Peter Longo, President of the WNY Chapter of the New York State Restaurant Association, who along with Daniel Garvey (Treasurer of the New York State Restaurant Association) quickly mobilized the local food service community to support the idea.

The team partnered with LocalFoodService.com, an online Community & Marketplace for WNY Food Service Professionals to facilitate bringing Local Restaurant Week to life.

In less than three weeks time, in March 2009, over 150 Buffalo area operators joined in and launched the successful inaugural Local Restaurant Week.

Food is Culture. In Western New York, the food service industry is OUR culture.

The locally, owned independent operator is the backbone of our community, and provides an essential element to the quality of life here. When we talk about what makes Western New York a great place to live, food and restaurants are often mentioned at the forefront. Before Art, Architecture, Music, our local Food culture is deeply embedded in our psyche. Many of the legacy food service operations in our area have family roots that continue today.

Money spent with an independent operators stays in our community. It is a reinvestment in what sustains our identity and we are grateful for you patronage.
