Buffalo Green Power

Buffalo Green Power (BGP) is a renewable energy company working to create one of the first municipal-scale anaerobic digestion waste-to-energy systems in the United States.

At BGP, we think that instead of throwing all our food and other organic wastes into a giant hole in the ground, we can be a little more creative and harness it as a resource for energy production and other environmental and social benefits even for growing more food! So our goal is to develop a facility that uses a closed loop process to turn food and organic waste into things like electricity, organic compost and soil products, and other plants and vegetables.

Basically, were going to turn food waste into electricity and in the process harness elements of that same resource to help grow fresh vegetables and produce high quality organic compost.

BGP plans to build a facility on a former industrial site to process food and other organic wastes into biogas via anaerobic digestion. Anaerobic digestion, or oxygen-less composting, allows us to capture enough biogas to generate electricity for use on site as well as commercial sale. Beyond that, waste heat will be used to run an onsite commercial greenhouse and the leftover solid materials from the original organic waste will be turned into organic compost!

We think it is a better idea to do lots of productive things with waste instead of throwing it into a landfill, where it does nothing but eventually release a lot of damaging methane gas into the atmosphere on its own.
